Upcoming Genealogy Blogging Events Week of July 24 – 30, 2009

Here is a list of events, memes and goings-on in the world of genealogy blogging and what’s happening in the coming week:

Happy Blogiversary!

Help us celebrate a blog anniversary milestone for these genealogy blogs:

  • GenBlog celebrates its first year on Wednesday, July 29th. Happy blogiversary to Julie Cahill Tarr!

In case I missed yours, remember to send me your blog anniversary info.

Genealogy Blog Carnivals

  • The Association of Graveyard Rabbits is hosting its 5th Edition of its Graveyard Rabbits Carnival and you should submit your blog post by Saturday, July 25, 2009. This month’s topic: Favorite Photo. Choose your favorite cemetery-related photo and bring it to the carnival. Post the photo to your blog, along with a short description of the photo, where it was taken, and why it’s your favorite.
  • The deadline for submissions for the 14th Edition of the Carnival of Irish Heritage and Culture has been extended to Sunday, July 26, 2009. The theme is vacation spots either in Ireland or with an Irish flavor. This edition will be published by Colleen Degnan Johnson on her blog CMJ Office.

Wondering how to participate in a blog carnival? Check out this post from Bootcamp for GeneaBloggers.

GeneaBloggers Group on Facebook

Great news – we are now at 638 members over at GeneaBloggers Group on Facebook.  Stop by to read an interesting discussion on whether or not to a blog owners should delete a genealogy blog which never had many posts and has been inactive for quite some time.

If you know anyone who blogs about their genealogy or family history and you think they might benefit from membership in GeneaBloggers please let me know and send me their email info!

GeneaBloggers Group on GenealogyWise

We’ve greate a group for those GeneaBloggers who are working with the new GenealogyWise site.  The name is GeneaBloggers and you can sign up for membership here.  Since GenealogyWise is often called “Facebook for genealogists” the group is set up almost the same as Facebook.  Current plans are for GeneaBloggers to maintain both groups for the time being.

Weekly Genealogy Blogging Prompt

Check out Weekly Genealogy Blogging Prompt #30: Write about your experiences with social networking tools for genealogy purposes. Do you use MySpace, Facebook or Twitter? Are you a wiki kind of person? None of the above? Tell readers about your experiences with these tools and watch your own social network grow.

Thanks to Amy Coffin at We Tree for the inspiration!

GeneaBloggers Calendar

Remember we have Black Sheep Sunday, Madness Monday, Tombstone Tuesday and Wordless Wednesday as regular ongoing memes! And don’t forget to check out other upcoming events at the GeneaBloggers Calendar. This is the same Google calendar that has been in existence for quite some time. And if you subscribe to the calendar you’ll receive email reminders of events.

  1. Thanks Evelyn

Normally I only list the deadlines for carnivals – do you think I should add the publication dates – problem is they are not always set in stone with an exact date but like Festival of Postcards, we could say “published this week”

  2. Not at all, Thomas. I agree with you.
I was just not sure if the Festival of Postcardslisting had made the transition from Facebook to GenealogyWise. I left for vacation just after GenealogyWise went online and I’ve just now begun to explore the site!
Thanks once again for your patience, your open-mindedness and all the work that you do for us.
    Evelyn in Montreal
