Geneabloggers Week In Review

Here is a list of events, memes and goings-on in the world of geneablogging:

Happy Blogoversary

Well I misspoke when I said “for the week of April 4 – April 11, 2009 there are no genealogy blogs celebrating anniversaries.”  Yesterday, April 10, was the one year blogoversary over at Crowe’s Nest.    Stop by and send your belated wishes! And The Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe which is run by Randy Seaver celebrated its two year blogoversary on April 5th!

Genealogy Traces celebrates its first year tomorrow, April 12th; Genea-Musings celebrates its third blogoversary on Wednesday, April 15th (on Tax Day, Randy?);  Transylvanian Dutch celebrates its two year anniversary on Thursday, April 16th; and Steve’s Genealogy Blog celebrates three years on Saturday, April 18th!

In case I missed yours, remember to send me your blog anniversary info – see last week’s post.

Geneabloggers Group on Facebook

We’ve added 13 more members for a total of 465. There is a new discussion on how to order a microfilm from FHL – weigh in with your opinion and advice.

And check out Genea-Bloggers group listing on Facebook. If you know anyone who blogs about their genealogy or family history and you think they might benefit from membership in Geneabloggers please let me know and send me their email info!

Genealogy Blog Carnivals

The final installment of Bound for Mom are due on Wednesday, April 15, 2009! The theme? The World Is Not Flat: many Moms love to travel and take off to parts unknown once the nest is empty. Did you Mom visit some great destinations? Or were there places she always wanted to visit? Build a travelogue based on Mom’s trips or perhaps places you’ve visited that Mom always wanted to.

Entries for the 70th edition of the Carnival of Genealogy are due the same day as your taxes – April 15th!  The topic is: Uncle, Uncle! This edition is all about our uncles. Have you got a favorite or interesting uncle? Tell us about him! Maybe you had a older cousin, neighbor, or friend you called “uncle”… that works too! No uncles in your life? No problem. Write about any gentleman on your family tree who was an uncle to somebody.

Wondering how to participate in a blog carnival? Check out this post from Facebook Bootcamp for GeneaBloggers.

Weekly Genealogy Blogging Prompt

Check out Weekly Genealogy Blogging Prompt #14Talk about the different types of technology you use in your genealogy research. Whether it’s a new search engine, a special application, or anything else “2.0,” let readers know what you’re working with, and how it’s working for you.

Surname Saturday

If you are a Twitter user, follow us @geneabloggers and join us tomorrow for Surname Saturday. Participants “tweet” about the surnames they are researching using the #surnames hashtag in each tweet. You can then search for other surname entries over at Twitter Search. Also consider joining the Genealogy Surnames group over at Twitter Groups.

Need help getting started with Twitter? Check out the Twitter cheat sheet created by Geneabloggers!

Geneabloggers Calendar

Remember we have Madness Monday, Tombstone Tuesday and Wordless Wednesday as regular ongoing memes! And don’t forget to check out other upcoming events at the new Geneabloggers Calendar. This is the same Google calendar that has been in existence for quite some time. And if you subscribe to the calendar you’ll receive email reminders of events.
