Our special guests will include: Our special guests will include: Ellen Rohr of the group Families for Forgotten Heroes who will explain how she and others are working to reunite unclaimed remains of veterans with their families. Also, we’ll talk to Polly FitzGerald Kimmitt, CG℠, of Kimmitt Genealogical Research, a certified genealogist who has been using her forensic skills in Army repatriation projects involving remains of veterans. And we’ll also ask listeners to call in and tell us about those family members and ancestors who served.

Families for Forgotten Heroes

Ellen Rohr

Ellen Rohr is the Database Team Leader at Families for Forgotten Heroes and a Case Administrator on the Genealogy Team. She lives in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Veterans have held a special place in her heart ever since her uncle returned from Vietnam.  She has been doing genealogy since she was a young sprout and in 2007 she became a professional genealogist and opened her own business, Linking Your Past Research Service.  Ellen specializes in Wisconsin and Midwest research and Family Websites.

Ellen volunteers for the WIGenWeb project, maintaining 4 county websites.  She has a website available for free Wisconsin genealogy resources. She also volunteers at the local county courthouse archiving probate records that are slated to be disposed.

She enjoys sleuthing a lot and joined Unclaimed Persons a year and a half ago to help enhance her skills finding the living. It saddens her to hear of people dying alone.  She understands how easy it is to lose touch with family.  Sometimes you have no idea what happened or why, you just know it happened and don’t know how to fix it.  She is hoping her volunteer efforts finding next of kin for these deceased veterans will help bring peace and comfort to families, even after death.
