Happy Blogiversary!

• On Monday, October 12, 2009, Illuminated Ancestries will celebrate its 3rd blogiversary.  Stop by and leave Carol your best wishes.

Blog Action Day

Join GeneaBloggers and other genealogy bloggers as we participate in Blog Action Day. We’ll join thousands of other bloggers to post about climate change.

In 2008, as a group, the genealogy bloggers were able to have a genealogy category created at Blog Action Day when the theme was poverty. Many of us posted about how poverty had affected our ancestors and helped shape our family history.

Now on Thursday October 15, 2009 it is your chance to participate with the theme of climate change. Post about how climate impacted your ancestors – did they move to find more favorable climates? Were they victims of the Dust Bowl in the Great Depression?

To participate you must do the following before October 15, 2009:

1. Go to http://www.blogactionday.org/ and click Register Your Blog.

2. Enter the URL of your blog and other information including your email address. Also, make sure you select the Genealogy category for your blog.

3. You will receive a confirmation email to which you must respond in order to register your blog.

4. Then go to the Badges page (http://www.blogactionday.org/badges/en) and grab a badge to display on your blog and let others know you’ll be part of Blog Action Day.

Then on October 15, 2009, post about climate change. GeneaBloggers will display a special blog widget noting all the related posts from GeneaBloggers members. This is a great way to interact with others in the blogging community, especially those outside of the genealogy world!

Genealogy Blog Carnivals

• The Carnival of Genealogy is accepting submissions for its 82nd Edition through Thursday, October 15, 2009.  The theme is Your Favorite Genealogical Society and will be hosted by Kathryn Doyle at the California Genealogical Society and Library blog.

• The Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International holds its 12th Genealogical/Cultural Conference beginning Wednesday, October 14, 2009 through Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Independence, OH.

• The California Family History Expo 2009 will be held Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Redding, California.

• Saturday, October 10, 2009 – Thomas MacEntee, of GeneaBloggers, is appearing at the California Genealogical Society and Library in Oakland, CA.  Thomas will be presenting Become A Genealogy Blog User (1:00 pm) and Building A Genealogy Blog (2:15 pm).

• Saturday, October 10, 2009 – Craig Manson, of GeneaBlogie, is appearing at the California Genealogical Society and Library in Oakland, CA.  Craig will be presenting Blogging and the Law – Privacy Issues & Copyrights at 3:30 pm.

• Tuesday, October 13, 2009 – Randy Seaver, of Genea-Musings, is appearing at the North San Diego County Genealogical Society in Carlsbad, CA.  Randy will be presenting Ancestry.com 101 at 9:30 am.

• Wednesday, October 14, 2009 – Paula Stuart Warren, of Paula’s Genealogical Eclectica, is appearing at Yorba Linda Community Center in Yorba Linda Valley, CA.  Paula will be presenting Research Rewards in County Courthouse and Town Hall Records at 7:00 pm.

• Thursday, October 15, 2009 – Lisa Alzo, of The Accidental Genealogist, is appearing at the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International’s 12th Genealogical/Cultural Conference in Independence, OH.  Lisa will be presenting Writing Your Family History (8:30 am), Beginning Slovak Genealogy (1:30pm) and They Settled Here: The Role of Chain Migration in the US, Its Importance in Family History Research (3:00 pm).

• Friday, October 16, 2009 – Jean Wilcox Hibben, of Circle Mending, is appearing at Cahuilla Chapter DAR in Palm Springs, CA.  Jean will be presenting Graveyard Gumshoe.

• Friday, October 16, 2009 – Lisa Louise Cooke, of Genealogy Gems News, is appearing at the California Family History Expo 2009 in Redding, CA.  Lisa will be presenting Google: A Goldmine of Genealogy Gems Part 1 (10:00 am), Google: A Goldmine of Genealogy Gems Part 2 (11:30 am) and Sharing the Joy: Projects That Will Captivate the Non-Genealogists in Your Life (1:00 pm).
