What I Do Meme

office

I’ve started a new meme today and I’m hoping the genealogy blogging community will pick it up since I feel the knowledge that it can impart and share with the community is important.

The meme: called What I Do and you basically list what you use in terms of technology to either run your genealogy business or pursue your family history as a hobby.

Why is this important?  Very often – especially if you work at home like me – we operate in a vacuum.  We have no idea what other people are using unless they mention it in an email or a blog post.  Or we have to ask for a recommendation.

So take a look.  Copy and use the list below if you want to participate at your blog.  Use the words “What I Do” in the post title and I’ll list it here:

* External storage:

Kreativ Blogger Award!

kreative_blogger

GeneaBloggers is honored to be given the Kreativ Blogger award by Terri O’Connell over at Finding Our Ancestors!  This is the second Kreativ Blogger award I’ve received so far this week and greatly appreciate being noticed.

The other award was made to my personal genealogy blog, Destination: Austin Family, by Luckie Daniels at Our Georgia Roots.  You can read more here as to the “seven things about me” and the other bloggers I’ve nominated for the award.

Thanks Terri and Luckie!

Black Sheep Sunday

If you are looking for a meme in which to participate or just need a regular Sunday post, consider joining in on Black Sheep Sunday.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a member of the International Black Sheep Society of Genealogists (IBSSG) who wanted to set up an aggregator similar to those we use here at Geneabloggers in the sidebar for Madness Monday, Tombstone Tuesday and Wordless Wednesday.

What qualifies an ancestor to be a black sheep?  According to the website:

Murder
Kidnapping
Armed Robbery
Treason
Theft of any item of fame
Membership in a famous gang, well documented
Political Assassin
Member of the FBI’s Most Wanted List
Political Expatriate
Extreme Public Embarrassment
Involvement in Witchcraft Trials
Bigamy (outside the Mormon faith, which condoned it at one time)
Persons expelled from normal society
Convicted felons (documented)

Also, we are seeing new geneabloggers join our group due to Black Sheep Sunday and you’ll agree there can never be too many genealogy blogs, right?

You can read more about Black Sheep Sunday here at the listing on gene@pedia.  Hopefully we’ll see your posting about those black sheep in your family tree soon!
