I have the great pleasure of introducing you to Stephanie Lincecum of the blog, Your Peachy Past. Stephanie describes her blog as, “ . . . Your Peachy Past is a collection of genealogical and historical information pertaining to the state of Georgia and the families which have lived there. Some specific counties are included, but truthfully, the whole state is fair game. I live in the great state of Georgia, so there’s no telling what I might find or see to include in the blog. Also included are resources, tips, and notes about genealogy and history research in the peach state.”
How Stephanie Got Started in Genealogy
Stephanie has been working on her personal genealogy for about 14 years, “Researching anything and anyone that might have a story has been going on for less than ten.”
Stephanie’s interest in her family history/genealogy dates back to her childhood, “ . . . I loved to listen to adults talk. It didn’t have to be specific stories about family members; I just wanted to be ‘in the know.’ My grandfather, B.J. Lincecum really got involved in our family genealogy when I was in my early twenties. The stories he uncovered, discovered were discussed when he and my grandmother would come to visit, and I became intrigued. When I got on the Internet and saw the early genealogy communities, I was completely hooked.”
Stephanie’s Family and Her Blog
When it comes to Georgia history, Stephanie’s family depends on her to share the “neat” finds that she uncovers. “I don’t think many really know about the Peachy Past blog, to be honest. I know some follow my personal genealogy blog Lincecum Lineage, and I’m thankful for their interest.”
How Stephanie Follows the Rest of Us
Stephanie’s prefers to use her Blogger dashboard as well as Twitter and Facebook to stay on top of her blog reading. “Google Reader is used ‘pretty sparingly.’ I just looked at my Google Reader, and it says I’m following more than 800 blogs. Is that possible?! Hmmm . . . I can say I don’t visit that many a day, for sure, but I’m confident the number is not a small one.”
Does Stephanie use her email for blog reading? “ . . . I do, but compared to the number of blogs I actually follow, very few are in my inbox.”
Stephanie’s Thoughts on Blogging
Stephanie had zero hesitations about blogging; she has always enjoyed creating websites, and just looked at each blog as another form of that. “Blogging is a great platform. It lends itself to easy updates and offers instant feedback and collaboration with comments enabled. The Peachy Past blog, in particular, stems from my time as a county coordinator for the GAGenWeb and American History & Genealogy Projects. I gave up those positions some time ago, but did not want to delete the information I had given to the project, as well as other submissions. So I started putting them on my main website, Southern Graves and started the blog for smaller submissions. Little did I know how I would keep finding things myself that I wanted to share with Georgia history buffs and genealogy researchers. Though fairly young, I envision the blog to one day be a great resource for those interested.”
Stephanie’s biggest concern is the same today as it was when she first starting blogging, “That no one will read it! I have gained a bit of confidence, though. The GeneaBlogger community is a very nice one to be a part of, and fellow members do comment on my posts from time to time.”
What Stephanie Loves the Most About Genealogy
“Sharing the findings with family is probably number one. Though I am the only ‘active’ researcher, my family is genuinely interested when I have something to tell them about their heritage (or they do a fine job of faking it!). Closely following that is finding traits or characteristics about ancestors that are also in me. It helps in knowing who I am and how I got to be this way!”
Stephanie’s Time Capsule Message
“While respecting and treasuring personal history is paramount, I would like them to also know the importance of protecting all levels of history, the history of their country, their state, their county, their city, the history of their culture, their society. It is all intertwined, and I believe you cannot truly know one without the other.”
Stephanie authors and manages several other blogs: Rose Hill Cemetery and Southern Obituaries. You can also follow Stephanie on Facebook and Twitter.

Your Peachy Past looks wonderful. When I research my southern roots I will look at it more closely. History is always interesting.
