I have the wonderful pleasure of introducing you to Lisa Lisson of the Are You My Cousin? blog, “A place where I can share my ancestors stories and photos. I primarily research North Carolina and Virginia families including: Talbott, Howard/Harward, Maddox, Haley, White, and Richardson.”
Lisa invites us to join in on her journey through her family history, “Discovering My Ancestors — One Cousin at a Time.”
About three or four years ago, Lisa started researching her family history as a “little” project to do with her children over the summer. Lisa and her children immediately met with small successes and began meeting new cousins and re-connecting with cousins she had known as a child. For Lisa, “I think this has been one of the biggest rewards in tracing our family history!”
Lisa’s Family and Her Blog
Lisa initially started her blog mainly for her cousins, and they seem to really like it. Her cousins seem to enjoy seeing the old photos of loved ones who have passed away, as well as learning about family lines generations back.
Lisa also found that her blog sparks her cousins’ memories and has led to new stories and new clues. Several cousins follow her blog on a regular basis.
Lisa also has a small group of followers via Google, who appear to be other family history researchers as well.
How Lisa Follows the Rest of Us
Lisa keeps up with fellow bloggers by way of Google Reader, which is part of her iGoogle homepage. Currently, she may follow about 10 family history blogs and catches up on blog reading over the weekends.
Lisa would love to follow more, however, her family does prefer that she live in “real time” during the week!
Lisa’s Thoughts on Blogging
Lisa was concerned that she wouldn’t have enough information to share or that anyone would be interested in reading her blog. Lisa, as many genealogy bloggers discover, there is never enough time to blog about your research and family history finds.
