May I Introduce To You . . . Charlene Baer

Charlene Baer

I have the great pleasure of introducing you to Charlene Baer and her blog, Track My Kin, described as, “. . . Individual Family History.”

How Charlene Got Started in Genealogy

“I started doing genealogy for other people in 1984 when I worked as a Reference Assistant at the Rhode Island Historical Society. Most of the people I helped were researching their early Rhode Island roots.

My grandmother died before I was born therefore I did not have a great deal of knowledge about my mother’s family. One day I decided to look up my grandmother’s obituary in the local newspaper on microfilm, which led me to start researching her line. I put genealogy aside while raising my family until one day my oldest son came home from middle school with a social studies assignment entitled ‘Family History.’ Helping him with his project rekindled my interest in genealogy.”

Charlene’s Family and Her Blog

“My family thinks it is great that I have started this blog and they are supportive. My husband and sons offer input and help me, especially with my technical aspects of the blog.

A few of my family and friends have read my posts but I do not think any of them actually follow it on a regular basis. I have made a Facebook page to sway friends and family to visit my blog.”

How Charlene Follows the Rest of Us

“I am following a few blogs with Google Reader and I frequent GeneaBloggers to see what is new.”

Charlene’s Thoughts on Blogging

“I created a genealogy blog to document my family research in narrative form to chronicle my ancestor’s lives. I still consider myself as just starting, since I just began blogging in February. My biggest fear is that no one will read it or understand why I blog about my family history.”

How Charlene created her blog title, “. . . I wanted to use the word track in the name because initially I thought of animal tracking, and since my last name is Baer, I thought it was a good fit. I gave my family a list of possible names from which to choose and Track My Kin was the designated winner.”

What Charlene Loves Most About Genealogy

“The thing I love most about doing my family history is the research involved. I always enjoy coming across documents, pictures, and uncovering long forgotten information. It may seem tedious to some, but I like to think of it as detective work and take pleasure in the search.”

Charlene’s Time Capsule Message

“My message to future generations is be open to unlocking the dreams of past generations for their dreams are your present reality.”
