I have the great pleasure of introducing you to Brenda Joyce Jerome of the Western Kentucky Genealogy blog, consisting of Kentucky history, miscellany tips, records and other things of a genealogical nature.
Brenda has been doing genealogy since her high school days. She had borrowed papers and files that belonged to her uncle. But Brenda decided to put her research aside for a bit while she attended college and in earnest, and then began again in 1969.
Brenda’s Family and Her Blog
Genealogy has always been a part of Brenda’s life, so her family is very used to her writing and always doing something genealogy. Brenda doubts that they have even given it a second thought knowing it’s just what she does.
A number of family members and friends follow Brenda’s blog. Occasionally, she will tell her children to take a look at a particular blog entry if she feels it something they will like. Having grown up with genealogy, Brenda’s children have absorbed quite a bit of information, whether they were really interested or not!
How Brenda Follows the Rest of Us
Brenda uses the bookmarking feature to keep up with about a dozen blogs. She then checks them religiously, sometimes wondering from one to another. Brenda especially enjoys blogs about tombstones and cemeteries.
Occasionally, she will receive blog updates via her email.
Brenda’s Thoughts on Blogging
Brenda never really had any concerns when it came to blogging. She thought about it for about five minutes and then took the plunge. Brenda feels, “If you stop to think about all the why and why nots, you will never accomplish anything”.
Brenda had published a quarterly by herself for 14 years. To her, starting a blog was easy compared to all that was involved in a published quarterly. Brenda feels that with a blog, you don’t have to worry about mailings or renewals or any of the other things connected to publishing a quarterly. In Brenda’s own words, “you just put it up and let it fly!”
Brenda feels that one of the nicest things about doing a blog is the wonderful and interesting people you meet, “one never knows who is reading your blog and when you get an email from a stranger who connected to a blog entry…it’s the greatest feeling”.
