Irish genealogy and family history.

Brown / Wheeler Family History

Brown / Wheeler Family History
http://brownwheelerfamilyhistory.posterous.com/
Blog type: Individual family history

I have been researching our family history for the past 50 years as time has permitted, and did publish one limited edition book on the occasion of my first cousin, once removed, Sanford Dewitt Fancher’s, 90th birthday.

Now that I am retired, I am putting a lot of effort into my research and hope to one day publish the entirety of the Brown / Wheeler family history.

I am hopeful others in our family will be able to assist with stories, photographs and, best of all, a solid interest in the part our ancestors have played in the formation of our wonderful country.

Geneapprentice

Geneapprentice
http://geneapprentice.blogspot.com/
Blog type: Genealogy education

Sounds like “Genie Apprentice.” Not quite that cool – but almost. I set up this blog to share what I learn as I work towards my certificate from the National Institute of Genealogical Studies. I will also post some interesting findings in my own family tree, as I’m probably related to at least one person that will read this.

Halls of Bristol County

Halls of Bristol County
http://www.hallsofbristolcounty.com/
Blog types: Individual family history, Massachusetts genealogy, New England genealogy

The purpose of the blog is to reveal the descendants of George Hall (1603-1669) of Taunton, Bristol County, MA. George arrived w/ wife Mary in 1639 from Devonshire. An exact DNA match has recently been found that connects two of the George Hall lines, resolving a centuries old dispute that originated from faulty research that resulted in the confusion of the George Hall family and the Edward Hall family of Rehoboth. Emphasis is on strong, documented paper trails and DNA backup.

In Deeds

In Deeds
http://indeeds.blogspot.com/
Blog type: Research blogs

Although the term “deeds” is used, this blog is designed to cover “land records, including deeds, mortgages, leases, liens, contracts, powers of attorney, releases, notices of action, judgments and decrees,” as stated in this website.

An article by William Dollarhide entitled “Retracing the Trails of Your Ancestors Using Deed Records,” explains the “Why” of “Why Find Deeds?”.

Many deeds are recorded at the county level; according to this source, deeds were recorded at a central location as mandated by law. That same source also lists some of the steps used to research deeds.

It's All Relative

It’s All Relative
http://livinginthepastlane.blogspot.com/
Blog type: Individual family history

Whether your family history research takes you to Chicago or Chattanooga, you’ll look at birth, marriage, and death certificates, naturalization documents, census records, city directories, maps, obituaries, even church histories. Let’s chat about the many genealogical resources available, where to find them, and the methodology needed for a rewarding outcome.

Despite 20+ years of experience in family history research, I still consider myself a novice. New resources are made available everyday. Technology is ever improving. The purpose of my blog is two-fold; first and foremost it keeps my own research on track, forcing me to systematically work through every lead for each of my ancestors one at a time. Second it gives me an opportunity to share the interesting research methodology, resources, and records I uncover along the way.

Notes That Matter - Mary's "Home On The Range" In Salina, Kansas

Notes That Matter – Mary’s “Home On The Range” In Salina, Kansas
http://historical-matters.com/blog/
Blog type: Genealogy education blog, Kansas genealogy, Midwest genealogy

Howdy! Welcome to my “home on the range” where buffalo still roam and antelope play, but the deer are a major road hazard. And I’ve been told that Kansas has more sunny days than anywhere else in the country.

Mostly this blog is about genealogy in the USA. Here you will find some Kansas genealogy, my personal genealogical searches, and news about the Heartland Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists. I’ll post information about the Christian Motorcyclists Association, chapter 363, McPherson, KS now and again. And you’ll probably read about the antics of the menagerie that visit my bird feeders outside my office window.

So drop by once in a while, pull up a rocker and sit a spell. And maybe we’ll learn something from each other.

Utah Deaf Genealogical Association

Utah Deaf Genealogical Association
http://utdeafgen.blogspot.com/
Blog type: Genealogy society blog

Well, way back in late fall 1999 or early 2000, a lady by the name of Dulane Woodhouse went to meet with the DeafZone leaders at the Family History Library.

The Deaf Zone had just been established with Elder and Sister Hatch. (mind you, all the full time senior missionaries are referred to as Elder and Sister, never by first name, to this day.) These missionaries had to learn ASL in a big hurry.

The first workshop started with only 30 attendees, 3 mornings one week in June 2000. That was it. Plus a small banquet at the end.

Then the next one in June 2002, it had 50 attendees, all 3 days.

June 2004 had grown to 90 attendees including a few non-LDS who heard about it through word of mouth. The keynote speaker was Dr. Tom Jones of Gallaudet University, who is editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly (he is still the editor.) Classes whole 5 days. The side event was Thursday evening when some of the attendees took advantage of viewing the actual remains from SS Titanic on display across the street from where the workshop week was held.

June 2006, grew to 130+ attendees, full week of 5 days. Keynote speaker was Amy Johnson Crow, CG of Bucyrus, Ohio. She’s mother of a deaf boy attending Ohio School for the Deaf. She spoke about the rich information found in the old deaf school records dating back to the earliest time, predating the censuses and more.
