genealogy blogging calendar
Here is a list of events and goings-on in the world of genealogy blogging. Here’s what is happening in the coming week:

November 11 – A Day To Remember Veterans

On Thursday, November 11, 2010, genealogy bloggers are asked to remember their veteran ancestors who served in the military. November 11th is Remembrance Day in most UK and Commonwealth nations and is Veteran’s Day here in the United States. We’ll carry a special post and “roll-up” of posts by members of GeneaBloggers on that day.

Atlanta Family History Expo, November 12-13, 2010

The Atlanta Family History Expo runs Friday, November 12 through Saturday, November 13, 2010 and many genealogy bloggers will be in attendance! Stay tuned here at GeneaBloggers beginning on Friday for the latest blog posts, tweets and news from the event!

52 Weeks To Better Genealogy

Amy Coffin of the fabulous We Tree blog, has done it again. Last year, Amy developed a series of 52 Weekly Genealogy Blogging Prompts which kept folks very busy and forced them to look at many different aspects of their genealogy.

Now Amy brings us 52 Weeks To Better Genealogy: a series of weekly prompts that are a bit more challenging and are geared towards those new to the field of genealogy and family history as well as those who want to brush up on some skills which might be a bit rusty.

  • Week 45: Examine genealogy societies in your region. Many genealogists belong to their local societies, but it’s helpful to be aware of other organizations within a few hours of your home. Sometimes these societies have good programs or resources to share. Cyndi’s List has an impressive Societies and Groups Index to browse, but it might not include certain smaller or newer societies. You may have to do some creative keyword searching on the Internet to find a list of societies near you. Use this week to see what types of groups meet in your part of the county, state or country. Don’t forget groups with specific research interests, such as ethnic societies. Genealogy bloggers can use this week to highlight some of the societies in their neck of the woods.

We’ll list a new challenge each Saturday which should be completed by the following Friday.

And remember – as Amy says – these should be fun exercises! Don’t feel that you have to participate each week, nor should you beat yourself up if you miss one or more challenges. We all have so much that we want to accomplish – let alone what we want to accomplish with our genealogy blogs. This series should be one which, by the end of 2010, helps you to be a better genealogist.

And don’t forget to check out other upcoming events at the Geneabloggers Calendar. This is the same Google calendar that has been in existence for quite some time. And if you subscribe to the calendar you’ll receive email reminders of events.
