52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy

52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy

Amy Coffin of the We Tree blog presents a new series of weekly blogging prompts for 2012: 52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy.

Many readers of GeneaBloggers will remember the success of the past three series Amy has developed:

What Is Abundant Genealogy?

There are so many websites, applications, libraries, archives, genealogy societies and other resources for which many of us are grateful. We live in a time of “abundance” when we can take advantage of many ways to expand our genealogy research and ways in which we document our family history.

While we might be aware of many of these resources, posting about them on your blog serves several purposes:

  • You make others aware of the resource – remember what is obvious to you might be the first time another genealogist has heard about the resources.
  • You also let others know how you use that resource. Share your “inside knowledge” as well as your tips and tricks. Again, another genealogist may sit back and say, “Wow, I never thought of using it like that!”
  • You give thanks and recognition to the providers of that resource. A thank you not only goes a long way, but it also lets them know why you like that resource.

Remember, you do not have to be a blogger to participate. If you do not have a genealogy blog, write down your thoughts on genealogy resources  on your computer, or simply record them on paper and keep them with your files.

One Challenge Each Week

GeneaBloggers will announce each challenge for the week in the weekly Upcoming Genealogy Blogging Events post every Friday.  At the same time, an event will be created over at the GeneaBloggers Facebook Page.  The challenge period will be Sunday through Saturday of that week. And each Saturday, GeneaBloggers will create a post announcing the coming week’s prompt with a roll-up widget listing those who are participating.

Also don’t forget that you can let your blog readers know about the 52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy series by displaying this badge in your sidebar.

52 weeks sounds fun. How do we join up? Is there a list somewhere that we can read all the posts? I’d love more details but not sure where to find them.
