Google Adds Blog Filter For Search Results

google

Google has added a new feature to its search engine homepage which allows you to show results from blogs. This is not very different than Google’s Blog Search but now you can apply this “filter” right from the main page of search results.

Here is an example of search results in Google using the term “lowville,” my ancestral hometown in upstate New York (click images to embiggen).

In the left sidebar, note the More button. Click the button and the list of filters will expand.

Click on Blogs, and the research results will be filtered to show only those from blog posts.

In addition, if you want to show only blog homepages, click Homepages in the lower portion of the sidebar.

Early Bird Discount Deadline for California Family History Expo

California Family History Expo

Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 31st, is the last day for early bird registration for the upcoming California Family History Expo in Pleasanton, California.

Held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, this is a 2-day genealogy “experience” filled with educational programs, a vendor hall and more. Yours truly will be there along with many other genealogy bloggers.

So if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area or are within driving distance, why not treat yourself to your own special “genealogy weekend” at the California Family History Expo? I am looking forward to a great event and a chance to meet up with my genealogy blogging colleagues and hopefully meet some new people too!

Disclosure: please see my disclosure statement concerning material connections I have with Family History Expos and other genealogy vendors.

Madness Monday August 30, 2010

madness-monday-01

Today is Madness Monday. If you have your own genealogy or family history related blog, you can participate in Madness Monday. What is it?

Madness Monday is a daily blogging theme used by many genealogy bloggers to help them post content on their sites.

To participate in Madness Monday simply create a post with the main focus being an ancestor who may have suffered from some form of mental illness or an ancestor who drives you “mad” because you have trouble locating them or locating more information about them.

Here are the latest Madness Monday posts from our member genealogy bloggers:
